The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 43-year-old man, Amadin Williams, over the alleged murder of his childhood friend, Eghosa Osas, in Edo State.
Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the arrest on Sunday. She said officers took the suspect into custody following a report filed by the victim’s elder brother.
According to police sources, the incident occurred in Oben Community, where the deceased had gone to celebrate Christmas with his family after returning from abroad.
Eghosa Osas killed during housewarming party
Sources said Eghosa Osas attended a housewarming party in the community before the incident. During the event, he reportedly stepped out briefly when the suspect allegedly attacked him.
Ikoedem explained that preliminary findings show the suspect cornered the victim and inflicted a fatal machete wound to the neck. The injury caused his immediate death.
She confirmed that officers recovered the suspect shortly after the incident and placed him in custody for further questioning.
Police begin investigation into Edo murder
The police spokesperson said investigators have commenced a full inquiry to determine the motive behind the killing. She added that the suspect will face prosecution once investigators conclude their work.
“The report of the murder is true,” Ikoedem said. “The suspect, believed to be the victim’s childhood friend, is in our custody. We will charge him to court after the investigation.”
The police urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with officers as the investigation continues.
Edo police record major arrests in 2025
In a related development, police in Edo State arrested over 821 suspects for various crimes in 2025, according to Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika.
Agbonika said the arrests covered major offences, including armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, rape, cultism, and illegal possession of firearms. He noted that the command remains committed to tackling crime across the state.
The latest arrest adds to ongoing efforts by the Edo State Police Command to improve public safety and enforce the rule of law.
