EFCC (The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission), arrested Ifeanyi Mba over allegations of land fraud involving N10 million in Enugu State. Mba allegedly sold a parcel of land that did not exist to an unsuspecting buyer. Furthermore, he collected the full payment and subsequently became incommunicado.
The Complaint
A victim filed a petition with the EFCC after Mba failed to deliver the property or refund the money. Consequently, the commission launched an investigation into the matter. The suspect had reportedly presented documents that appeared genuine but later turned out to be fraudulent.
EFCC Statement
The commission confirmed the arrest through its spokesperson. “The EFCC arrested Ifeanyi Mba for an alleged N10 million land fraud in Enugu,” the statement read. Additionally, the spokesperson noted that “he sold a non-existent property and became incommunicado after collecting the money.”
Ongoing Investigation
Investigators traced Mba to his hideout after weeks of surveillance. Moreover, they recovered several documents suspected to be forged during a search of his premises. The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
The EFCC announced that Mba will face charges in court upon the completion of the investigation. Meanwhile, the commission urged the public to verify land documents thoroughly before making any payments.
