Ex-NEXIM Bank MD Robert Orya jailed 490 years over N2.4 billion fraud

Robert Orya, a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) has been combined guilty of committing a defraud amounting to approximately N2.4 billion by the Federal Capital Territory High Court.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed this on February 5, 2026.

The belief underscores the continuous attempts by the government to prosecute top management in the Nigerian economy on financial offenses.

What EFCC said over Robert Orya Case

Orya was charged by the commission, through Samuel Ugwuegbulam and found guilty by Justice F.E. Messiri of the FCT High Court, Abuja.

Orya was found guilty to a 49-year sentence on each of the 49 counts of the fraudulent diversion of N2.4 billion committed under his tenure in the position of NEXIM Managing Director between 2011 and 2016.
