Federal Government and Bank of Agriculture Distribute Over 2,000 Tractors to Boost Food Security

The Federal Government (FG) and the Bank of Agriculture have distributed more than 2,000 tractors. And heavy-duty equipment to mechanized farmers. This initiative aims to increase agricultural production and strengthen national food security.

The announcement made by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari. And the Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture, Mr. Ayodeji Sontinrin, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

About the Programme

The distribution is part of the Renewed Hope National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme (NAMP), supported by Heifer International and Heifer Nigeria. NAMP seeks to transform agriculture into a more productive and sustainable sector. It includes specialized farming tools and structured financing models to ensure long-term economic benefits. Particularly for enterprises led by women and youth.

Senator Kyari and Mr. Sontinrin highlighted that NAMP is not just about distributing equipment. It’s design to create systems that add value across the agricultural value chain.

“The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in collaboration with the Bank of Agriculture, has distributed over 2,000 tractors. And heavy-duty equipment to mechanized farmers to boost production and enhance food security. This effort, supported by Heifer International and Heifer Nigeria, is part of the Renewed Hope National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme (NAMP),” NAN reported.

Mr. Sontinrin added, “NAMP is more than tractor distribution. It is a commitment to building systems that endure, generate value. And support millions of smallholder farmers who feed the nation.”

He emphasized that the programme relies on financial discipline, inclusive participation, and digital accountability to ensure long-term economic returns. Beneficiaries are encourage to maintain the equipment, honor repayment terms, and develop sustainable agribusinesses that create jobs. He described the rollout as a significant milestone reflecting President Bola Tinubu’s focus on agriculture.

The officials stressed that the initiative is designed to empower smallholder farmers while delivering measurable improvements in national food security. Senator Kyari also noted the strong demand for the programme across the country.
