The Federal Ministry of Education has denied issuing any directive to close schools across Nigeria on November 24, 2025. The ministry described reports circulating on social media about a nationwide shutdown as false and misleading.
Spokesperson Folasade Boriowo said the claims did not originate from the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, any State Ministry of Education, or any recognised security agency.
Public Urged to Follow Official Information
The ministry advised Nigerians to rely only on verified announcements from official channels. “Any notice from unofficial sources should be ignored and not shared. Always confirm information before circulating it to prevent misinformation,” the statement said.
Officials emphasized that only communications from the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, State Governments, and recognised security agencies are authentic.
Context: Targeted School Closures in High-Risk Areas
The clarification follows the Federal Government’s order to close 41 federal secondary schools in high-risk areas after a series of abductions in Niger and Kebbi States.
Some states, including Kwara, Plateau, Katsina, and Niger, temporarily shut schools due to rising insecurity. Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas also directed all public and private schools to deboard students immediately.
