The federal government (FG) has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid al-Fitr.
In a statement on Monday, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, minister of interior, announced the decision on behalf of the federal government.
Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting observed by Muslims worldwide.
Minister Felicitates with Muslims
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful on completing the Ramadan fast.
He urged them to uphold the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice emphasised during the period.
Tunji-Ojo called on Nigerians to use the celebration to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in the country.
The minister encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and show kindness to the less privileged.
He added that the federal government remains committed to promoting unity and peaceful coexistence across the country.
