The federal government says it will launch the National Single Window (NSW) on March 27.
NSW is a digital platform designed to speed up import and export clearance in Nigeria.
Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to Bola Ahmed Tinubu on information and strategy, disclosed this on Wednesday.
He spoke to journalists at the end of the federal executive council (FEC) meeting in Abuja.
According to him, the platform will transform Nigeria’s trade ecosystem and simplify procedures for businesses.
How the Platform Will Work
Onanuga said the system will allow traders to submit documents once through a central online portal.
After submission, the platform will automatically share the documents with all relevant government agencies.
This will eliminate the need for businesses to submit the same documents to multiple agencies.
He said the first phase of the platform will support the online processing of import permits and the electronic submission of cargo manifests.
In addition, the system will introduce a centralised risk management framework for cargo clearance.
Boost for businesses and trade
According to Onanuga, the digital platform will reduce delays at ports and improve efficiency in the trade process.
He said the reform will also enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in global trade.
Several government agencies are collaborating on the project. They include the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Revenue Service.
Others involved are the Nigerian Ports Authority, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria.
Officials say the initiative forms part of the administration’s broader fiscal reforms aimed at improving trade facilitation and boosting economic growth.
