A quiet neighbourhood. An ordinary afternoon. A senseless killing.
What Happened in Stuart’s Southwood Community
Residents had already called 911 before the stabbing, reporting a suspicious man going door-to-door asking about a non-existent bank in the area.
One homeowner shut the door after he tried to step inside. Minutes later, emergency calls reporting the attack came in.
A good Samaritan attempted to intervene but couldn’t stop the assault. A deputy arrived to find Francilus actively stabbing Adams on the ground. He surrendered when the officer drew his weapon.
Adams was airlifted to the hospital but died from her injuries — 16 to 17 stab wounds to her upper torso.
Suspect’s Own Words, also a Mental Health Warning Sign
After being read his Miranda rights, Francilus allegedly admitted to the killing.
According to the affidavit, he said he “went around” the neighbourhood and “found a lady and then I killed her.”
His mother told detectives he had not taken his medication since February and that she had been hiding knives from him above the microwave.
The knife used in the attack came from the family home where Francilus lived with his mother, wife and child.
No Motive, No Prior Connection
Francilus has no known criminal history and no prior relationship with the victim. Sheriff Budensiek confirmed there is no known motive.
There was one previous call for service at Francilus’s home, during which he was reported to be “acting strange.”
