Former Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi has died at the age of 68.
Notably, Nwaoboshi represented Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
According to family sources, he passed away on Friday in Abuja after a brief illness.
Governor Oborevwori Confirms Death
Meanwhile, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, confirmed the death in a condolence statement.
In the statement, the governor described the passing as a major loss to Delta State, the Anioma nation, and Nigeria.
Subsequently, the governor released the message through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon.
He also praised Nwaoboshi’s dedication to public service and national development.
Tribute to Anioma Advocate
Furthermore, Governor Oborevwori described the late senator as a fearless advocate of the Anioma cause.
According to him, Nwaoboshi’s contributions to nation-building would remain lasting.
During his time in the Senate, the former lawmaker played key roles.
In particular, the governor highlighted his service as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs.
As a result, Nwaoboshi consistently pushed for development in the oil-producing region.
Governor Offers Condolences
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the passing of my dear friend, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi,” the governor said.
In addition, he offered condolences to the family and political associates.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the people of Anioma nation, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and all those whose lives he touched.”
Finally, the governor prayed for the repose of his soul.
“I pray that Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest.”
Political Career Before the Senate
Before his election to the Senate in 2015, Nwaoboshi served as PDP Chairman in Delta State.
At that time, he held the position for two terms.
Consequently, party leaders credited him with strengthening the party’s structure across the state.
Overall, political associates described him as outspoken and deeply committed to his people.
