Pensioners of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) say they will join the nationwide naked protest scheduled for December 8. They are demanding payment of pension arrears and outstanding palliative allowances.
National Financial Secretary of the group, Bola Popoola, confirmed the plan in a statement from Lagos. He said the government had ignored their appeals for payment for too long.
The protest was first announced by the Coalition of Federal Pensioners of Nigeria, which also asked its members nationwide to mobilize. The group is pushing for the payment of pension increment arrears and the ₦25,000 palliative approved in 2023.
Why FRCN Pensioners Are Joining the Naked Protest
Popoola explained that many retirees now live in hardship because the government has failed to release their pension arrears tied to the ₦32,000 minimum pension. He said pensioners believe the protest remains the only way to force action.
He added that retirees have waited several years for relief, yet nothing changed.
According to him:
“The non-payment of the ₦25,000 palliative for six months remains unacceptable. Pensioners served the country. We should not beg to survive.”
Nigerian Pensioners Abroad to Stage Global Protest
Popoola also revealed that Nigerian pensioners in diaspora plan to hold their own coordinated protest on the same day. They want the world to see how retirees back home struggle without their benefits.
He stressed that pensioners belong to a vulnerable group and deserve dignity after years of service to Nigeria.
