Fulham and Manchester United Share the Points in Hard-Fought 1-1 Premier League Draw at Craven Cottage

Fulham and Manchester United are still searching for their first wins of the 2025/26 Premier League season after an intense 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage that saw both sides create chances but ultimately settle for a point apiece.

Despite falling to a narrow defeat against Arsenal in their season opener, Manchester United came into this match looking sharp and determined. From the first whistle, Erik ten Hag’s side looked lively in west London, with Matheus Cunha nearly giving United an early lead. The Brazilian forward, linking well with Mason Mount, rifled a powerful shot narrowly wide before later rattling the post.

Cunha, who has looked revitalized since his move to United, also came close to breaking the deadlock following a long ball forward from debutant goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. Preferred over the inconsistent Andre Onana, Bayindir had a mixed afternoon, again struggling with in-swinging corners — an area of concern that continues to haunt United’s defensive set-piece structure.

Man U’s Bruno Fernandes misses P.K

United appeared to be handed a golden opportunity to take control in the 38th minute when Calvin Bassey clumsily brought down Mount in the box. Following a VAR review, the referee pointed to the spot. But captain Bruno Fernandes, usually reliable from 12 yards, blasted the penalty well over the bar — drawing ironic cheers from the home crowd.

The deadlock was finally broken just before the hour mark — and in a moment of misfortune for Fulham. Rising to meet a corner from the right, United defender Leny Yoro saw his header deflect off Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz and into his own net, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead through an own goal.

Fulham with the equalizer

However, just as United looked to be closing in on their first three points of the campaign, Fulham found their reply. Former Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe, introduced as a second-half substitute, made an immediate impact. The 23-year-old pounced on a lapse in concentration from Matthijs de Ligt, converting a pinpoint cross from Alex Iwobi with his very first touch to bring Fulham level in the 73rd minute.

The goal ensured a second straight draw for Marco Silva’s Fulham, while Manchester United are now two games without a win, piling early pressure on Ten Hag to turn things around.
