Ghana Arrests 93 Nigerians for Internet Fraud

Ghana Immigration Service targeted suspected fraud network at Devtraco Estate in Accra and rescued 73 victims of torture during intelligence-led raid.

Immigration Officers Carry Out Major Raid

Ghana Immigration Service officers conducted an intelligence-led raid at the Devtraco Estate in Accra on March 9. The officers targeted six houses during the operation. They arrested 93 Nigerian nationals suspected of internet fraud and immigration violations.

Officers rescued 73 victims at the scene. Suspects had subjected the individuals to torture and abuse. Ghana Immigration Service repatriated the victims to Nigeria immediately afterward.

Suspects Include 91 Men and Two Women

The arrested group consisted of 91 men and two women. All suspects held Nigerian nationality. Authorities charged them with internet fraud along with breaches of Ghana immigration laws.

Deputy Superintendent Directs the Operation

Deputy Superintendent of Immigration Newman Akuffo led the raid from the National Operations Unit. He coordinated intelligence gathering and the arrests on site.

Officers recovered 82 laptop computers 57 mobile phones and 17 television sets from the properties. They also confiscated counterfeit United States dollar notes and fake gold bars. These items linked directly to the alleged fraud activities.

Spokesperson Explains Details of Raid

Ghana Immigration Service spokesperson Maud Anima Quainoo described the arrests. “The arrests followed an intelligence-led raid on a suspected internet fraud network operating at Devtraco Estate in Accra” Quainoo said. She added that investigations continued at headquarters to determine the full scale of the criminal network.

The Ghana Immigration Service reminded foreign nationals to obey immigration rules. The Comptroller-General of Immigration warned against violations. Officials cited the Human Trafficking Act and the Immigration Act which impose prison terms from three months to life in severe cases.

Arrests Form Part of Ongoing Crackdown

This operation built on earlier raids against cybercrime networks in Ghana. Similar actions took place in previous months. Ghana Immigration Service pledged to intensify efforts against such groups.

Authorities moved the 93 suspects to the GIS National Headquarters. Officials continued questioning them as the probe advanced. The service planned to prosecute the case fully while protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
