Governor Senator Bassey Otu attended the handover ceremony in Calabar. Moreover he described the event as a battle won for all Cross Riverians. Additionally, Otu highlighted the recovery as a rebirth of resilience. Therefore this moment revived a key vision for the state.
Officials from AMCON signed the documents. As a result, the resort returned fully to state control. Meanwhile Otu praised the process as transparent.
For his part, the Executive Director of AMCON, Mr. Shola Lamide, said the corporation acquired the Tinapa asset in 2011 but struggled to attract private investors to revive the project.
He expressed satisfaction that the facility has now been fully handed back to Cross River State, describing the resolution as “a win for both AMCON and the people of Cross River.”
Tinapa’s Rich History
Former Governor Donald Duke conceived Tinapa in 2007. Consequently, it positioned Cross River on the global map. However, debts led AMCON to take over in 2011. Additionally, challenges like vandalism hindered progress.
Moreover, the resort features a free trade zone and leisure spots. Thus it once drove tourism and trade.
Revival Plans Unfold
Then Otu approved N18 billion for rehabilitation in July. Furthermore, this funding targets Tinapa and other sites. As a result, the government is attracting investors now. Additionally, Otu explores uses in agriculture and ICT. Therefore these steps ensure long term viability.
Boosting the Economy
Finally, the return creates jobs and stimulates growth. Moreover it reinforces Cross River as a tourism hub. Consequently, residents anticipate prosperity. Thus Otu’s leadership marks a transformative era.
