Gunmen Attack Church in Anambra Leaves Two Worshippers Dead

Gunmen invaded St. Andrews Anglican Church in Isiokwe, Lilu community, Ihiala Local Government Area, Anambra State, early Sunday morning. They opened fire on worshippers and set buildings ablaze. As a result, the attack created panic among residents.

Victims Suffer Losses

Attackers killed two people, including the priest’s wife. Additionally they injured several others. Meanwhile the priest escaped the violence.

Destruction Spreads

The hoodlums burned the priest’s house to ashes. Furthermore they destroyed vehicles and motorcycles on the premises. Parts of the main church building also caught fire.

Police Step In

Anambra State Police confirmed the incident and deployed joint security teams. Commissioner Ikioye Orutugu condemned the act as heinous. He assured residents that officers would pursue the perpetrators relentlessly.

Residents fled the area after the raid. However, police urged calm and cooperation. The deserted church grounds showed debris everywhere.

Lilu has faced gunmen attacks since 2021. The government blames groups like IPOB, but the group denies involvement. As a result, insecurity persists in the region bordering Imo State.
