Hailey Bieber, 29, recently shared details about a health challenge she faced before giving birth to her son, Jack Blues. The Rhode founder opened up during an appearance on the SHE MD podcast with her OB/GYN, Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi.
Hailey, who is married to singer Justin Bieber, revealed that her pregnancy came as a surprise. This was especially unexpected because her doctor had previously warned her about a condition called a uterine septum.
“I had a septum in my uterus, and Dr. A kept saying. ‘We need to monitor this before you get pregnant because it could cause complications,’” Hailey Bieber explained.
A uterine septum is a congenital condition where a thin wall divides part of the uterus. According to Dr. Aliabadi, this condition can increase the risk of miscarriage or preterm delivery.
Dr. Aliabadi shared that Hailey’s case was moderate, with a 25–40% risk of miscarriage and a 10–20% risk of preterm birth. “And then she calls me and says, ‘I’m pregnant!’. And I’m like, ‘No!’” the doctor recalled with a laugh during the podcast.
Despite the risks, Hailey remained optimistic. “I just believed everything was going to work out,” she remembered telling her doctor.
Thankfully, her pregnancy progressed safely, and she welcomed her son without major complications.
However, Hailey Bieber has previously described her labor as intense and challenging. In an earlier interview, she called giving birth “the hardest thing I’ve ever done,”. Revealing that she labored for hours without an epidural after her water broke.
