Global superstar Bad Bunny is seeking $456,312 in legal fees after winning a copyright lawsuit tied to his song “Enséñame a Bailar”.
His legal team has asked a U.S. federal court to order emPawa Africa — founded by Mr Eazi — to cover the costs.
The Lawsuit Explained
The case was originally filed by Nigerian producer Dera, who claimed Bad Bunny’s track copied elements from “Empty My Pocket” by Joeboy, an artist signed to emPawa Africa.
However, the court dismissed the lawsuit due to:
- Missed legal deadlines
- Failure to actively pursue the case
This dismissal handed a clear victory to Bad Bunny.
Why emPawa May Pay Bad Bunny
Interestingly, Bad Bunny is not seeking payment from the producer who filed the case.
Instead, his legal team argues that emPawa Africa should pay because:
- The label allegedly financed the lawsuit
- It played a key role in pushing the case forward
The court will now decide whether the label is responsible for covering the hefty legal bill.
What started as a copyright dispute has now turned into a high-stakes financial battle.
If the court rules in his favor, Bad Bunny could secure a major payout — while emPawa Africa faces a costly consequence.
