American singer Britney Spears, 44, arrested in California for allegedly driving under the influence.
According to records from the Ventura Sheriff’s Office, Spears taken into custody on the evening of Wednesday, March 4. She released early Thursday morning, March 5.
The sheriff’s office booked Britney Spears around 3 a.m. Wednesday, but she released just hours later.
During the arrest, Spears handcuffed, taken into custody, and later released after being booked.
She scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
This arrest follows reports that Britney Spears had recently obtained a restraining order against a man from Louisiana. The man allegedly harassed her for years, starting in 2013.
This isn’t Spears’ first legal trouble. Back in 2007, she arrested in Los Angeles for an alleged hit-and-run involving a parked car. Those charges dropped after she paid damages to the car’s owner.
In early 2024, Spears announced she would never return to the music industry after gaining financial independence from a conservatorship controlled by her father.
Last month, news broke that Britney Spears sold the rights to her entire music catalog to independent publisher Primary Wave for approximately $200 million.
