The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to disburse over ₦1 billion to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) under the 2026 National MSME Awards.
The initiative, themed “Renewed Hope for MSMEs,” aimed at boosting small business growth, job creation, and economic development across the country. The grants will awarded to outstanding businesses in various sectors.
Application Portal Opens April 7
According to Temitola Adekunle-Johnson, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Job Creation and MSMEs. The application portal will officially open on April 7 and close on May 7.
He urged eligible MSMEs nationwide to take advantage of the opportunity by submitting their applications early and ensuring all required details properly filled. The process expected to be competitive, attracting thousands of entries from across Nigeria.
Focus on Grants, Not Just Recognition
Unlike previous editions, the 2026 MSME Awards will place stronger emphasis on direct financial support rather than just recognition. Successful applicants will receive grants to scale operations, improve productivity, and expand market reach.
The programme is part of broader efforts by the government to strengthen the MSME sector. Which remains a key driver of Nigeria’s economy, contributing significantly to employment and GDP.
Boost for Jobs and Economic Growth
Analysts say the ₦1 billion grant scheme could provide much-needed relief for small businesses facing rising costs and economic pressures.
By supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, the initiative expected to create jobs, encourage local production, and reduce dependence on imports.
With applications set to begin soon, MSMEs are being encouraged to prepare their documents and seize the opportunity to access funding that could transform their businesses.
