Oluremi Tinubu Distributes 10,000 Sanitary Pads to Kogi Schoolgirls

Oluremi Tinubu has donated 10,000 disposable sanitary pads to schoolgirls in Kogi State as part of efforts to promote menstrual health and keep girls in school. The donation was made in Lokoja during the launch of her “Flow With Confidence” campaign under the Renewed Hope Initiative.

Represented by the wife of the Kogi State Governor, Sefinat Ododo, the First Lady said the initiative is designed to empower girls through both menstrual health education and access to hygiene products. She noted that each of the 10,000 beneficiaries in rural communities would receive a year’s supply of sanitary pads.

Mrs Tinubu emphasized that lack of access to sanitary products remains a major challenge for many girls, often leading to absenteeism and even school dropouts. She stressed that no girl should have to choose between her education and her dignity.

Nationwide Plan Targets 370,000 Girls

The initiative is part of a broader nationwide programme aimed at reaching 370,000 schoolgirls across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. According to the First Lady, about ₦2.55 billion has already been spent to procure sanitary pads from a local manufacturer for distribution.

Stakeholders at the event described the programme as a major step toward improving girl-child education and health outcomes. Education officials and development partners highlighted the importance of menstrual hygiene awareness in boosting confidence and ensuring uninterrupted learning.

The initiative also calls on government agencies, private organizations, and communities to support efforts that address menstrual health challenges across the country.

With this move, the Renewed Hope Initiative continues to push for inclusive education and improved well-being for girls, particularly those in underserved rural areas.
