International nonprofit TechnoServe, in partnership with The Coca-Cola Foundation, has launched PReP 2.0—an expanded phase of the Plastic Recycling Program in Nigeria.
The initiative builds on earlier successes in southern Nigeria and aims to scale recycling efforts nationwide while creating sustainable economic opportunities.
With Nigeria generating about 2.5 million metric tons of plastic waste annually. According to United Nations Industrial Development Organization—the urgency to address pollution and waste management challenges continues to grow.
Turning Waste into Wealth and Jobs
PReP 2.0 is designed to strengthen an inclusive recycling system. By supporting waste collectors, aggregators, and small businesses involved in the plastic value chain.
However, in cities like Lagos, where over 13,000 metric tons of waste are generated daily. The program is helping convert plastic waste into valuable raw materials.
By doing so, it not only reduces environmental pollution but also creates income streams and employment opportunities for thousands of Nigerians.
Scaling Sustainable Environmental Solutions
The new phase will focus on expanding infrastructure, improving recycling capacity, and increasing community participation in waste collection and processing.
It also aligns with broader sustainability goals—reducing plastic leakage into waterways and promoting circular economy practices across the country.
PReP 2.0 A Step Toward a Cleaner, Greener Nigeria
PReP 2.0 represents a significant step toward tackling Nigeria’s waste crisis while empowering local communities economically.
What was once a major environmental problem is increasingly becoming an opportunity. Driving jobs, cleaner cities, and a more sustainable future.
