World Bank Grant: The Yobe State Government, led by Mai Mala Buni. Has secured a $5 million (about ₦7 billion) grant from the World Bank to power key institutions with solar power.
The funding aimed at improving electricity supply in critical sectors. Especially in health and education, where reliable power remains essential for effective service delivery.
Solar Projects Target Schools and Hospitals
According to Mustapha Abba Geidam, the grant will be to install rooftop Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems across six major institutions in the state.
These solar installations expected to provide stable and clean electricity to hospitals and schools. Thus reducing dependence on unreliable grid power and expensive diesel generators.
Partnership Driving Rural Electrification
The project is part of a broader collaboration between the Federal Rural Electrification Agency and the World Bank, initiated by the Yobe State Government.
It aligns with ongoing efforts to expand renewable energy access, especially in underserved regions, while promoting sustainable development.
With this $5 million boost, Yobe is taking a significant step toward cleaner, more reliable power for essential public services.
