Popular social media activist, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has shared why he’s not interested in joining discussions about Nigeria’s electoral reforms, calling the process “dead on arrival.”
In a statement making rounds online. VDM explained that electoral reforms shouldn’t be driven solely by social media activists or everyday citizens. Instead, he believes the responsibility lies with key political figures who actively participate in elections. He specifically mentioned politicians like Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and other candidates. As those who should take the lead in pushing for these changes.
VDM also stated that young people shouldn’t be at the forefront of this fight. Instead, he suggested that they take on a supporting role, working behind the politicians. Who are directly impacted by the current electoral system.
“I can’t waste my time on electoral reform because it is deåd on arrival. Peter Obi, Atiku, El-Rufai, and other candidates are the ones supposed to be at the forefront pushing for the reforms. They youths are supposed to support them from behind.” The commentator was heard saying in the video
VDM’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions online, with some agreeing with his position. While others argue that civic pressure from youths and activists remains essential for meaningful electoral change in Nigeria.
