President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says he remains determined to rescue Nigeria and deliver on his promises to citizens.
Tinubu spoke on Monday night while hosting state governors to an interfaith breaking of the fast at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The event brought together all governors as Muslims observe Ramadan and Christians mark Lent.
Call for Unity Beyond Religion
Speaking further, the president urged the governors to rise above politics and govern with conscience.
“In this sacred season for two of the major faiths in our dear country, we are reminded that beyond politics and policy, we are first a people of conscience,” he said.
He commended the governors for their outreach programmes during the holy period.
However, he challenged them to do more for ordinary Nigerians.
Tinubu asked them to reach young people who feel neglected, calling them to support women struggling to sustain their families.
He also called for renewed focus on grassroots communities where hope is fading.
“Development must not recognise religion. Compassion must not recognise tribe. Opportunity must not recognise status,” he said.
Push for State Police
The president said that security remains top of his reform agenda.
This, he said, is the foundation of prosperity.
“Without it, farms cannot flourish, businesses cannot grow, and families cannot sleep in peace,” he said.
Consequently, he announced plans to establish state police to combat insecurity.
“This is not about politics. It is about practicality. It is about empowering states with the tools to protect their people while strengthening our national framework,” he said.
Tinubu urged leaders to embrace reform and unity.
“We must be bold enough to reform what is not working. We must be united enough to protect what we hold dear,” he said.
He expressed confidence that Nigeria would become safer and stronger.
