‘I’m Not Against Tinubu’s Re-election’ — Otti

Alex Otti

Alex Otti, governor of Abia state, says he does not oppose the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.

Otti made the remark during a recent media chat.

He said he sees no reason to oppose Tinubu’s second-term bid since he is also seeking re-election.

“I’m not in a position to oppose the candidacy of the president. I’m not running for president, so why would I oppose him?” he said.

He added that he cannot justify supporting his own second term while opposing Tinubu’s.

“It’s his second term. I’m also seeking a second term. Will it be appropriate for me to justify mine and say somebody else should not have his?” he said.

Otti said party affiliation does not shape his position.

He said all levels of government must work together to serve the people.

“Once you are in government, whether federal, state, or local, it is essentially one system,” he said.

He noted that he participates in national decision-making through the National Economic Council, saying that he may disagree with some decisions but still respects collective outcomes.

“I may not agree with everything, but once a decision has been taken, I go by it. That is how democracy works,” he said.

Otti also criticised attempts to create political tension.

He said some individuals push divisive narratives to serve selfish interests.

“Some people try to heat up the system by creating problems that do not exist. They push narratives that cannot stand scrutiny,” he said.
