Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria staged a protest in Kano on March 1, 2026. They demonstrated against the reported killing of Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran. The action followed joint US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran.
Procession Begins at Mosque
Protesters gathered at Fagge Central Mosque around 3 p.m. They carried Iranian flags and portraits of Khamenei. The group, dressed mostly in black, marched through city streets. Participants chanted slogans and expressed grief.
In addition, the peaceful procession moved to the IMN Islamic Centre in Kofar Waika. There, they held speeches and prayers. The event lasted about an hour. Organizers described the march as a solidarity action.
Condemnation of Attacks
Demonstrators condemned the strikes that reportedly caused Khamenei’s death. They viewed the attacks as aggression against Iran. Similar protests occurred in other northern Nigerian cities, including Kaduna and Abuja. IMN members displayed images of Ibrahim Zakzaky, leader of the group in Nigeria.
Furthermore, the group expressed support for Iran amid the conflict. Reports indicated thousands joined across the region. Police monitored the events without incidents.
Regional Tensions Escalate
The protests reflected broader outrage over the US-Israeli operation. Iran faced continued strikes into the second day. Asian nations called for dialogue after the attacks. Demonstrations also erupted in Indian administered Kashmir.
Meanwhile, IMN leaders urged calm and unity. The group, a pro-Iranian Shia organization, has faced past clashes with authorities. This event remained non-violent. The marches highlighted global reactions to the Middle East crisis.
