The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has flagged off its mega voter registration exercise in Lagos Central as part of efforts to expand voter access and boost citizens’ participation in the electoral process.
The electoral umpire disclosed this in a post on its official X page on Tuesday.
The flag-off ceremony, held at Ajele Sports Complex, was led by the Lagos resident electoral commissioner, Ayobami Salami, alongside members of the commission’s management team in the state.
INEC said the introduction of the mega centre is aimed at addressing the high volume of prospective registrants in densely populated urban areas, reducing congestion at regular registration points, and providing faster, more efficient services through the deployment of additional personnel and equipment.
The commission added that the initiative is designed to bring registration services closer to citizens in strategic locations, thereby improving accessibility and overall voter experience.
According to INEC, the exercise, which commenced on Monday, April 7, 2026, will provide eligible citizens with access to a range of services, including fresh registration for new voters, transfer of registration, update or correction of voter details, and replacement of lost or damaged permanent voter cards (PVCs).
Speaking at the event, Salami urged eligible residents, particularly first-time voters, to take advantage of the exercise to register and actively participate in the democratic process.
He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible voter is disenfranchised.
The registration exercise will run until Saturday, April 12, 2026, across designated centres, operating daily from 9:00am to 3:00pm, as INEC continues efforts to deepen voter inclusion and strengthen the integrity of the electoral process.
