Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi was born on June 29, 1927, in Nafada, Gombe State, Nigeria, which is currently a part of Gombe State. He grew up in a family devoted to Islam. His father, Alhaji Usman Mai Hula, taught him the basics of faith.
Sheikh Dahiru memorized the entire Quran before he turned 20. He then studied under famous scholars, including Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass from Senegal. This training built his strong knowledge in Islamic jurisprudence, Hadith and Sufism.
Rise to Prominence
Sheikh Dahiru quickly rose up in the leadership of the Tijaniyyah Sufi order. This is because he gained popularity due to his association with Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass. Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass passed away in 1975. Sheikh Dahiru emerged prominently after the death of Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass.
Additionally he served as deputy chairman of the Fatwa Committee in the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs. People admired his wisdom and calm approach to teaching.
Contributions to Islam and Society
Sheikh Dahiru founded the Ithad Ansarul Faelat Tijaniyat group. He wrote many books on Islamic law and Sufism. Moreover he started Quran interpretations in Bauchi in 1950, which reached millions through radio.
He promoted education by building homes for students and encouraging both Islamic and Western learning. Sheikh Dahiru performed Hajj 55 times and Umrah 205 times. His work inspired peace and unity among Muslims.
Furthermore, he raised a large family. He left behind over 100 children, 406 grandchildren, and 100 great-grandchildren. Many of them memorized the Quran, following his path.
Final Days and Death
Sheikh Dahiru battled a long illness in his later years. Family sources announced his death on November 27, 2025, at age 98. He died at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi.
However some reports mentioned Kaduna as the place. His son, Sayyadi Ali Dahiru Usman Bauchi, confirmed the news from Madinah. Burial plans remained unclear, possibly in Abuja or Bauchi.
Tributes and Legacy
Leaders and followers shared tributes online. Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad called it a great loss and prayed for his soul. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State praised his service to Allah and people.
