Israel announced on Tuesday that it had killed Ali Larijani, Iran’s security chief, during a military operation. Israel Katz, Israel’s Minister of Defence, confirmed the death and stated that Larijani had been “eliminated” in the strike.
Katz said he and the prime minister had instructed the military to “continue hunting down” Iran’s leadership. As reported by ALO360, this announcement marked a significant escalation in Israel’s targeting of Iranian officials.
Larijani was last seen in public on Friday during Quds Day rallies in Tehran. Posts on his X account showed him greeting and interacting with supporters during the march on 13 March.
A day before that public appearance, Larijani posted on X taunting President Trump. He wrote: “Trump says he is looking for a speedy victory. While starting a war is easy, it cannot be won with a few tweets.” He added: “We will not relent until making you sorry for this grave miscalculation.”
On 10 March, Larijani posted that Iran was not scared of Trump’s “threats”. He stated: “Even those bigger than you couldn’t eliminate Iranian nation.” He also warned: “Be careful, so that you won’t get eliminated.”
Israeli media reported that Larijani was attacked alongside his son in a hideout apartment.
