The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has moved the 2025 public university admission deadline from October 31 to November 17, 2025.
JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, announced this on Monday in Abuja. He said the extension became necessary after unexpected developments disrupted the initial schedule.
Court Order and NUC Approvals Prompt Change
According to Dr. Benjamin, a court order had earlier suspended the 2025/2026 admission process. Although the court lifted the order on October 28, the delay created a backlog. Moreover, the National Universities Commission (NUC) released 229 newly accredited programmes for 37 universities on October 29, which required schools to review their lists again.
JAMB Commends Universities
Dr. Benjamin praised universities for showing strong dedication and speed despite these setbacks. He explained that the extension gives all public institutions enough time to finalise their admissions fairly. He also stressed that November 17 is the final date, urging universities to comply fully.
Commitment to Transparency
JAMB reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and credible admission process that supports national education goals. Furthermore, the board promised to keep working with schools to ensure smooth and timely admissions. This extension will also allow universities to complete their internal selections before the overall national deadline of December 31, 2025.
Conclusion
In conclusion, JAMB’s decision to shift the 2025 admission deadline reflects its commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, and accountability in Nigeria’s education system. The extension allows universities to process admissions thoroughly and ensures that every qualified student gets a fair chance before the final December 31 national cut-off.
