Security Guard Confesses to Killing Retired Delta Chief Judge

Justice Ifeoma Okogwu murder suspect Godwin Mngumi has confessed to killing the retired Delta State Chief Judge during a robbery at her Asaba residence.

Police paraded the 25-year-old suspect in a video released on Tuesday by the Delta State Police Command spokesperson, Bright Edafe. In the footage, Mngumi admitted that he recruited two accomplices to steal valuables from the judge.

Suspect Details How Crime Happened

Mngumi said he had recently secured a job as a security guard at Justice Okogwu’s home. He revealed that he worked there for less than two weeks before the crime.

According to him, the plan was to steal the judge’s mobile phone and other items. However, the situation escalated after they restrained her.

“We did not plan to kill her. We only wanted to take her phone,” Mngumi said. “Her hands and legs were tied and we collected her phone, wristwatch, necklace, and power bank.”

Stolen Phones and Arrest of Accomplice

Mngumi disclosed that the retired judge owned two mobile phones. He said his accomplice, Nnaji Obalum, took the larger Samsung phone, while they sold the smaller handset.

Police also paraded Obalum, 21, who confirmed that officers arrested him with the Samsung phone.

“The Samsung phone was found with me. I inserted my SIM card into it,” Obalum admitted.

Third Suspect Still on the Run

Edafe revealed that a third suspect involved in the crime remains at large. He assured the public that police operatives are intensifying efforts to arrest the fleeing suspect.

Both arrested suspects expressed remorse and pleaded for forgiveness.

Police Issue Security Warning to Residents

The police spokesperson advised residents to thoroughly screen domestic staff and security personnel before employing them.

Justice Okogwu was discovered dead in her home on Sunday, November 23. Investigators found her hands and legs bound, while attackers ransacked the house in a violent robbery.

Police operatives later tracked and arrested Mngumi in Anambra State, where he fled after the incident.
