Socialite and businessman Afolabi Kazeem Michael, better known as KC Luxury, has sued the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). He is demanding ₦190 million over his alleged unlawful arrest and continued detention.
KC Luxury filed the fundamental rights suit at the Federal High Court in Lagos through his lawyer, Abdulakeem Labi-Lawal (SAN). He wants the court to declare his detention unconstitutional and a violation of his right to personal liberty. He is also challenging the alleged invasion of his privacy and circulation of his photos and videos while in custody.
NDLEA arrested KC Luxury on August 13, 2026, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. He was reportedly preparing to travel to Paris at the time. The agency linked his arrest to an investigation involving 184.50kg of cocaine. According to NDLEA, the cocaine was connected to an international drug network using Nigeria as a transit route. The agency also said the investigation involved foreign currencies, luxury items and searches linked to the case.
Meanwhile, KC Luxury’s family has challenged the legality of his continued detention. His father, Eric Afolabi, alleged in an affidavit that he had spent 14 days in NDLEA custody without being told the specific offence or formally charged in court. The family also alleged that NDLEA searched his Banana Island residence without a warrant. They claimed no incriminating material was found. KC Luxury is asking for his immediate release or bail pending any criminal charges.
However, Justice Friday Ogazi declined to hear the application ex parte. The judge ordered NDLEA to respond and produce KC Luxury in court. The case was adjourned until September 9, 2026. The court has not yet determined the allegations.
