Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso

Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano state, is set to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of a growing coalition ahead of the 2027 general election.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement announced the development in a statement on Saturday.

Habibu Sale Mohammed, spokesperson of the movement, said Kwankwaso has concluded plans to join the ADC.

“The Kwankwasiyya Movement wishes to inform all its members that our leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has concluded all arrangements to join the ADC,” he said.

Furthermore, he said Kwankwaso will formally register with the party on Monday, March 30, 2026.

Mohammed said the registration will take place at Kwankwaso’s residence, Gidan Kwankwasiyya, Miller Road, Kano, at 12 pm.

Specifically, the movement directed its members across the country to register with the ADC immediately after the formal registration.

It instructed members to register in their wards, local government areas, and states. It also urged them to participate actively in party activities.

The group described the decision as strategic. It said the move aligns with its commitment to democratic values and good governance.

“This decision reflects our commitment to the advancement of democracy and the collective aspirations of the people,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Kwankwaso’s planned move is expected to reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 election.

Political observers have continued to push for a possible alliance between Kwankwaso and Peter Obi.

Supporters of both leaders believe a joint ticket could mount a strong challenge against President Bola Tinubu.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement said it remains united and committed to building a more inclusive Nigeria.
