The Kwara State Government ordered the immediate closure of schools in four local government areas. The move comes after rising security threats in the region.
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kwara State chapter, confirmed the closure on Wednesday. Schools in Isin, Irepodun, Ifelodun, and Ekiti LGAs are affected.
NUT Chairman Yusuf Agboola said the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development issued the instruction. The aim is to protect students and staff from fresh security risks in Kwara South.
“Comrade chairmen, inform all schools in these local governments to close immediately until further notice,” the circular stated. “The government is acting to control the situation and safeguard communities.”
Agboola urged school leaders to treat the notice with urgency. He promised that authorities will provide further instructions as the situation develops.
The Kwara government emphasized that student safety is a top priority. Authorities are working with local security agencies to monitor threats.
Conclusion: Closing schools in Isin, Irepodun, Ifelodun, and Ekiti demonstrates Kwara’s commitment to student safety. Officials continue to track security threats and will act to protect communities.
