Lagos seals Ladipo Spare Parts Market over environmental violations

The Lagos State Government has shut down the Ladipo Spare Parts Market. Which is located along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway. This action follows repeated violations of environmental regulations.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, announced the closure in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.

According to Wahab, the decision is part of the state’s ongoing efforts. To curb environmental degradation and criminal activities along major roads. He highlighted that the market was closed due to persistent issues. Such as indiscriminate waste dumping and illegal street trading within the highway corridor.

“This morning, the Lagos State Government closed Ladipo Spare Parts Market on the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa-Oshodi Expressway). Due to repeated environmental violations, including littering the median/highway and unauthorized street trading. #ZeroToleranceLagos,” Wahab wrote.

The closure aims to enforce compliance with environmental laws and restore order along the highway. It also aligns with the state’s broader initiatives to improve sanitation, traffic flow, and public safety on major roads.
