The Lagos State Government has announced a four-week partial closure of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway to carry out essential repairs on damaged sections of the road.
This announcement made in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Tuesday.
The closure will affect both inbound and outbound lanes between U-Turn Bus Stop and Sango Tollgate. To minimize disruptions, traffic diversions diversed a planned.

Purpose of the Repairs
The Ministry of Transportation explained that the rehabilitation aims to fix damaged sections of the expressway while ensuring smooth traffic flow. The repairs be carried out in phases over four weeks.
In the statement, the Ministry said:
- “The Lagos State Government has announced a partial road closure on the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway to allow the Federal Ministry of Works to conduct critical rehabilitation on failed sections of the road.”
- “The repairs will cover the stretch from U-Turn Bus Stop to Sango Tollgate, affecting both inbound and outbound lanes. Work starts on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, and is expected to end on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.”
The Ministry assured road users that traffic would be managed carefully, with phased lane closures allowing vehicles to move in both directions during the project.
Traffic Diversion Plan:
To reduce inconvenience, the Lagos State Government has introduced a phased traffic diversion strategy:
- Phase One (Abeokuta-bound traffic): From February 11 to March 4, traffic heading toward Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate is to diverted to a single lane, approximately 20 meters from the active work zone. Lagos-bound traffic will remain unaffected.
- Phase Two (Lagos-bound traffic): From March 4 to March 11, vehicles traveling toward Lagos/Abule-Egba diverted similarly, while Abeokuta-bound traffic will flow as usual.
Motorists advised to plan their trips, follow traffic signs, and cooperate with traffic officials. The Ministry has assured that adequate traffic management measures will be in place throughout the project.
Additional Context:
This rehabilitation follows the Federal Government’s directive for night-time repairs on the Lagos–Ota–Abeokuta Road in January 2026. The directive came after an inspection by the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi.
