Lagos State to Launch Full Tourism Master Plan in 2026

Lagos Tourism Master Plan 2026 – promoting culture, leisure, and economic growth

The Lagos State Government will fully implement its Tourism Master Plan in 2026, aiming to diversify the economic landscape of Nigeria’s commercial hub. Additionally, Mr. Solomon Saanu, Chairman of the House Committee on Tourism and Culture, announced the initiative during a meeting with the Association of Nigerian Journalists and Writers of Tourism (ANJET) in Lagos.

Saanu emphasized Lagos’ potential. “With its vibrant culture, extensive coastline, and thriving entertainment industry, Lagos can become a top tourism destination,” he said. Moreover, the state has all the resources needed to compete globally.

Collaborative Approach to Implementation
Saanu is consulting former permanent secretaries and directors from the state’s tourism ministry. Consequently, their expertise will guide the execution of the master plan. He added, “We have developed a program, set up a committee, and started implementation with experts from transportation and other sectors that support tourism.”

Private Sector Drives Tourism Growth
Saanu stressed that government funding alone cannot sustain a world-class tourism ecosystem. Therefore, he encouraged private sector partnerships to enhance infrastructure, hospitality, and tour operations. As a result, Lagos aims to attract high-spending visitors and boost its GDP.

Ensuring Financial Discipline and Accountability
Saanu highlighted the need for strict financial discipline. In addition, he urged transparent budget allocations, regular audits, and clear reporting. “Proper management ensures tourism funds deliver tangible benefits rather than being wasted,” he noted.

A Holistic Vision for Lagos Tourism
The Tourism Master Plan also targets logistical challenges, such as transportation, that often deter visitors. By combining government oversight with private sector expertise, Lagos aims to create a sustainable and profitable tourism ecosystem by 2026. Ultimately, this initiative reflects the state’s commitment to economic growth and international tourism standards.
