The Nigerian Air Force has confirmed a NAF jet malfunction during a routine post-maintenance flight at the Kainji Air Base in Niger State. The Alpha Jet developed a sudden in-flight emergency shortly after takeoff, forcing the pilots to eject.
The Air Force stated that the pilots guided the jet away from residential areas before ejecting. Emergency teams arrived quickly, and the crew began standard medical checks.
Investigation Ordered After Mid-Air Malfunction
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, ordered an immediate Board of Inquiry to investigate the NAF jet malfunction. He praised the pilots for their swift decision-making and calm response.
Officials say the investigation will focus on identifying the cause of the malfunction and improving safety procedures.
Air Force Reassures Nigerians on Flight Safety
The Nigerian Air Force reassured the public of its commitment to safety. It emphasized that regular inspections, training, and fleet improvements remain top priorities.
The Air Force also stated that it will continue protecting its personnel and civilians as part of its national security mandate.
