New Security Measures Will Yield Results Soon, Tinubu Tells CAN

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government’s new security measures will soon begin to yield positive results across the country.

The president gave the assurance while meeting a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said his administration remains determined to restore peace and stability nationwide.

Tinubu Backs State, Community Policing

Tinubu told the delegation that his government is committed to establishing state and community police as part of efforts to change Nigeria’s security narrative.

He explained that some of the measures introduced by his administration require time to mature. Therefore, he urged patience and cooperation from all stakeholders.

“The challenge is real, but we will surmount it,” Tinubu said. “We need focus, vigilance, and cooperation.”

He added that Nigeria’s vast ungoverned spaces continue to pose security challenges. However, the government is not relenting in its response.

Military Equipment, Foreign Support

The president said delays in acquiring military hardware have affected public perception. Nonetheless, he stressed that procurement efforts remain ongoing.

According to him, the Federal Government has ordered four attack helicopters from the United States. In addition, Nigeria has approached Turkey for further military support.

Tinubu said state and community policing would become a reality once the National Assembly completes the required legislative process.

Tinubu Speaks on School Abductions

Commenting on the recent abduction and release of schoolchildren in Niger and Kebbi states, the president urged Nigerians to remain vigilant.

He said the safe return of the children mattered more than debates about how their release occurred.

“The rhetoric is secondary,” Tinubu said. “The end justifies the means.”

CAN Pledges Support for Tinubu

In his response, Archbishop Okoh assured the president of the Church’s support, describing Tinubu as the nation’s elected leader.

“You are our President. The Church has no choice but to support you and your administration,” Okoh said.

He commended Tinubu for closing the gap between the government and the Church, noting that such engagement was unprecedented.

CAN Makes Requests

Okoh urged the president to maintain direct engagement with CAN through its structures in all 774 local government areas.

He also requested the release of funds to the Christian Pilgrims’ Board to enable it to carry out its mandate effectively.

Other members of the delegation included Rev. Dr Stephen Panya Baba, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, and representatives of the Catholic, Methodist, and African Instituted Churches.

Despite ongoing security challenges, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to returning Nigeria to peace and prosperity.
