A Norwegian court sentenced Nigeria Flying Eagles midfielder Daniel Daga to six months in prison. The Nordmore and Romsdal District Court convicted the player after the trial concluded on March 10.
Court Orders Payment of Costs
The court also required Daniel Daga to pay 10,000 Norwegian kroner in legal costs. Officials set the amount at around 1.45 million naira.Police received the report in late April 2025. Prosecutors charged Daniel Daga under Section 297 of the Norwegian Penal Code.
Lawyer Announces Appeal
Daniel Daga lawyer Astrid Bolstad addressed the media right away. She confirmed plans to challenge the verdict. “He is very upset about the verdict. He believes he is innocent and that everything happened with consent,” Bolstad told TV 2.
Club Suspends Player
Molde FK officials reacted swiftly. The club stated that Daniel Daga would not join the matchday squad until further notice.As reported by ALO360, the sentence did not become final. Daniel Daga appealed the ruling through the legal system.
Player Maintains Position
Meanwhile, Daniel Daga continued to insist the encounter occurred with consent. The appeal process now advances in Norwegian courts.Daniel Daga transferred to Molde FK from Enyimba a year ago. The player represented Nigeria at the 2023 and 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cups.
