Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, says Nigeria foreign policy will remain practical and driven by national interest. He explained that the country will focus on economic growth, job creation, and partnerships that produce clear results.
Tuggar issued the statement through his media aide, Alkasim Abdulkadir, on Sunday. He spoke at the Doha Forum 2025 during a panel on BRICS, the GCC, and shifting global relations.
He said Nigeria will build relationships based on mutual respect and measurable benefits. According to him, the population of over 230 million people demands investment, youth employment, and stronger economic opportunities.
Nigeria Foreign Policy Guided by National Interest
Tuggar emphasized that Nigeria’s work with BRICS and the G20 is based on national interest, not ideology. He stressed that the country seeks balanced relations in a fast-changing, multipolar world.
He warned against dragging foreign rivalries into Africa. Tuggar said the continent must protect peace and avoid proxy conflicts that can slow development.
He added that Nigeria foreign policy reflects the country’s long record of independent diplomacy and global cooperation, including its historic role in Africa’s liberation and international development.
