Nigeria Now Cited Globally for Economic Reforms, Says World Bank Official

Anna Bjerde, managing director of operations at the World Bank, says Nigeria has become a frequent global reference point for economic reforms.

Bjerde spoke on Tuesday during a special visit to President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

World Bank Praises Reform Direction

Bjerde said Nigeria often comes up in her discussions with presidents, policymakers, and investors around the world.

She noted that the scale and pace of reforms implemented over the last two years have drawn global attention.

According to her, the outcomes so far are “commendable” and reflect strong political will.

Tinubu’s Consistency Boosts Confidence

The World Bank official praised Tinubu for maintaining a steady reform direction despite implementation challenges.

She said the president has consistently communicated the importance of the reforms to Nigerians and the international community.

This, she added, has provided clarity and confidence that the government will not reverse course.

“There is no turning back,” Bjerde said, noting that consistency is critical to achieving long-term results.

Reforms Noted by Global Investors

Bjerde said Nigeria’s reform journey is frequently cited in global policy and investment circles.

She added that she personally references Nigeria’s experience when discussing reform implementation in other countries.

According to her, many governments often slow down or reverse reforms under pressure, but Nigeria has stayed the course.

Private Sector Signals Progress

The World Bank official said feedback from the private sector supports claims of progress.

She referenced meetings with business leaders in Lagos, where investors highlighted early gains from the reforms.

Bjerde said Nigeria has moved from the reform “launching stage” to delivering measurable results within two years.

She described the progress as remarkable and worthy of global recognition.
