Nigeria will face Mozambique in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, organisers have officially confirmed.
The fixture became clear after the conclusion of matchday three on Wednesday night. As a result, the Super Eagles now know their next opponent as the tournament moves into the knockout phase.
The decisive encounter will take place in Fez, Morocco. Meanwhile, Nigeria will aim to extend its impressive run as it continues its quest for continental glory at AFCON 2025.
Nigeria vs Mozambique as Super Eagles Top Group C
Nigeria booked the Round of 16 spot after topping Group C with maximum points. Notably, the Super Eagles recorded three wins from three matches, showing consistency and control throughout the group stage.
Because of that strong finish, Nigeria earned a clash against the third-placed team from Group F, which turned out to be Mozambique. Consequently, the matchup sets up a balanced contest between two sides with contrasting group-stage journeys.
Meanwhile, the AFCON 2025 Round of 16 will run from January 3 to January 6, 2026, across several Moroccan cities. Importantly, the winners will advance to the quarter-finals scheduled for January 9 and 10.
AFCON 2025 Knockout Matches Across Moroccan Cities
A total of 16 teams progressed from the group stage. These include Morocco and Mali from Group A, Egypt and South Africa from Group B, and Nigeria from Group C alongside Tunisia and Tanzania.
Similarly, Senegal, DR Congo, Benin, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Sudan, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Mozambique also advanced. Therefore, the knockout stage promises intense competition across the board.
Round of 16 matches will take place in Fez, Tangier, Rabat, Casablanca, Agadir, and Marrakesh. Specifically, Nigeria will face Mozambique on January 5 at 19:00 GMT in Fez.
If matches remain level after 90 minutes, organisers will decide them through extra time and, if required, penalty shootouts. For now, attention shifts to the Super Eagles as they prepare for the crucial tie.
