Burkina Faso says a Nigerian Air Force C130 aircraft entered Burkina Faso airspace without authorisation on Monday. Officials confirmed that the plane carried 11 military personnel. It landed in Bobo Dioulasso after an in-flight emergency.
The announcement came through the Agence d’Information du Burkina. The update quoted the Confederation of Sahel States. According to the bloc, the aircraft had two crew and nine passengers, all military.
Burkina Faso Airspace Violation Prompts Investigation
Moreover, Burkinabe authorities explained that their investigation found no clearance for the flight. They described the entry as a violation of sovereignty. The Confederation of Sahel States condemned the act “with the utmost firmness.”
Furthermore, the bloc warned that air and anti-aircraft defences were on maximum alert. It stated that forces were ready to intercept any aircraft that entered the region without permission.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force and the Federal Government have not issued an official response.
