The Defense Headquarters (DHQ) has finally admitted that some of its soldiers plotted a coup against President Bola Tinubu.

Earlier in October 2025, the federal government announced the cancellation of the Independence Day parade, though no real explanation was given. News later reported that some military officers had planned to unseat Tinubu through a coup. The coup was to take place on the Independence Day Celebration.

In a statement on Monday, the Director, Defence Information, Samaila Uba, a Major-General, said that a probe panel that was set up to investigate the incident has submitted its report to the appropriate authorities. He said those found culpable will be prosecuted according to the laws of Nigeria.
He said that the military decided to make the probe public for accountability purposes.
