The NNPC Joint Venture donated $300,000 to the National Hospital in Abuja. This generous act supports cancer treatment. Officials presented the funds during a special event.
The Donation Ceremony
Leaders from NNPC and Renaissance gathered in Abuja. Oluwaseyi Omotowa, Chief Upstream Investment Officer at NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services, led the presentation. Nkechi Anaedobe represented him. Tony Attah, Managing Director of Renaissance Africa Energy Company, joined the team.
They handed the donation to Prof. Muhammad Raji Mahmud, Chief Medical Director of the hospital. Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate, witnessed the occasion.
Purpose of the Funds
The money sustains the Linear Accelerator Radiotherapy Machine, or LINAC. The JV originally donated this machine in 2019. Now, the funds ensure timely maintenance. Moreover they minimize downtime and guarantee precise calibration. This keeps the machine compliant with medical standards.
Impact on Patients
The LINAC has treated over 2,000 patients so far. It reduces treatment costs by 80 percent. Additionally it shortens therapy sessions from 12 minutes to just 2 minutes. The hospital has subsidized care for 712 indigent patients, with discounts up to 100 percent. Consequently fewer Nigerians seek treatment abroad.
