NNPC Boss Reaffirms Commitment to Reviving Nigeria’s Refineries

The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), Mr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, has assured Nigerians that the company is taking firm steps to restore full operations at the Warri, Port Harcourt, and Kaduna refineries.

He emphasized that the ongoing technical and commercial review would ensure long-term efficiency, profitability, and sustainability across all facilities.

NNPC Begins Comprehensive Refinery Review

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Ojulari reaffirmed NNPC’s commitment to repositioning Nigeria’s refineries for maximum output. He explained that the company is conducting a comprehensive technical and commercial review to determine the best strategy for restoring refinery capacity.

According to him, this review shows NNPC’s renewed determination to improve Nigeria’s energy sector. He added that the company’s motivation comes from the belief that national prosperity must always come before individual interests. Therefore, the company is working to create sustainable refinery solutions that will secure Nigeria’s energy future.

Ojulari expressed optimism, saying that the refineries would soon become fully functional and efficient once the review process is completed.

Strategic Partnerships for Refinery Revamp

Ojulari revealed that the next phase of the project would focus on forming technical partnerships with experienced global refinery operators. These partnerships, he explained, are expected to strengthen the company’s technical expertise and ensure that operations meet international standards.

He also mentioned that these collaborations will enhance local capacity and promote knowledge transfer. As a result, Nigeria will benefit from improved performance, better management systems, and a stronger domestic refining industry.

Alignment with National Energy Goals

Furthermore, the NNPC boss confirmed that the refinery rehabilitation aligns with the National Energy Strategy. The plan emphasizes energy security, asset optimization, and efficient management of national resources.

Ojulari pointed out that this strategy ensures NNPC remains capable of meeting its obligations under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) as the supplier of last resort. Additionally, it guarantees that the refineries will operate profitably while serving the nation’s energy needs.

He stressed that NNPC’s approach reflects the government’s commitment to building a resilient, self-sufficient, and energy-secure Nigeria.

NNPC’s Drive for Transparency and Efficiency

Ojulari reiterated that NNPC is evolving into a commercially driven and transparent energy company. The organization continues to prioritize accountability, operational excellence, and value delivery to Nigerians.

He also highlighted that transparency remains central to the company’s new business culture. Therefore, every action taken by NNPC is guided by integrity and the goal of maximizing national benefit.

“We are repositioning as a commercially driven, transparent energy company serving Nigerians,” Ojulari said, reinforcing the company’s focus on sustainable growth and innovation.

Conclusion

With a clear roadmap and renewed determination, NNPC is steadily advancing toward restoring Nigeria’s refinery operations. Through global partnerships, strategic reforms, and alignment with the National Energy Strategy, the company aims to deliver lasting value, boost energy independence, and strengthen economic growth.
