Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that there will be no going back on the Rivers decision ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the declaration during a Thank You Visit to Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State on Wednesday. According to him, the decision reflects a firm political stance that will not change under pressure.
He explained that the move also aligns with efforts to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term. Additionally, he said the plan aims to correct what he described as leadership failures at the state level.
No Going Back on Rivers Decision Despite Pressure
Speaking to supporters, Wike stressed that intimidation or financial inducement would not alter their resolve.
“We are prepared; we have made a decision and we are not going back. I want you to be strong. Nobody will intimidate us,” he said.
He added, “we have done it before and we are going to do it again.”
According to Wike, those entrusted with power in Rivers State lost focus due to greed and personal ambition. Therefore, he warned that lack of gratitude and the misuse of authority often result in political downfall.
Wike Thanks Eleme for Standing With Tinubu
Wike said he visited Eleme to appreciate residents for standing firm with Tinubu despite political challenges.
“I want to say that I have not taken your support for granted,” he told the crowd.
He also described his appointment as FCT minister as historic for the South-South region.
“In spite of all the troubles, Tinubu decided that I, a South South person, should be the Minister of FCT. It has never happened before,” Wike said.
He further noted, “Also, the ongoing development in this area has never happened before until Tinubu happened.”
Eleme Leaders Reaffirm Support for Wike
Earlier, Chief Aforji Igwe, who represents Eleme in the Rivers State House of Assembly, described Wike as “a fair, just and a man of integrity.” He pledged the continued support of Eleme people.
Similarly, the Chairman of Eleme Council, Chief Obarilormate Ollor, praised Wike for infrastructural projects executed during his tenure as governor. He assured the minister of loyalty and said residents awaited further political direction ahead of 2027.
