NSCDC (The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps), detained 16 individuals in connection with serious criminal activities ranging from counterfeiting to illegal mining. The arrests occurred during separate operations conducted by the corps.
Counterfeit Currency Operation
Commandant General Ahmed Audi disclosed the details during a press briefing in Abuja. He stated that operatives intercepted suspects in possession of counterfeit United States dollars totaling 600,000. “Our intelligence unit tracked the movement of these individuals for weeks before making the arrest,” Audi said. He added that the fake currency appeared sophisticated but failed forensic examination.
Firearms and Kidnapping Suspects
In a separate operation, officers apprehended suspects linked to unlawful possession of firearms. The commandant general confirmed that several weapons, including automatic rifles and ammunition, were recovered during the raid. Additionally, the corps detained individuals suspected of involvement in kidnapping activities across the northern region.
The NSCDC also targeted illegal mining operations in several states. Audi explained that the suspects operated unauthorized mining sites without proper documentation or environmental clearance. “These activities pose serious security and environmental risks to our communities,” he stated. Officers seized mining equipment and raw minerals during the enforcement action.
Ongoing Investigation
The commandant general indicated that all 16 suspects remained in custody. He noted that investigations continued to determine the extent of their criminal networks. Furthermore, he stated that the corps would collaborate with other security agencies to prosecute the cases.
The NSCDC urged citizens to report suspicious activities through its emergency lines.
