Obidient Movement Finance Director Dr Peter Agada Resigns, Cites Poor Coordination

Dr Peter Agada, who served as Finance Director of the Obidient Movement, resigned from his position citing poor coordination and a lack of organisational structure. As reported by ALO360, Agada announced his resignation on Wednesday at a press conference held in Abuja.

The resignation marked a significant development within the political support group that rallied behind Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi during the 2023 elections. Furthermore, Agada used the occasion to unveil a new political platform called The Movement Nigeria.

Resignation Announcement

Addressing journalists at the briefing, Agada explained that he submitted his resignation letter three days prior to the announcement. He stated, “I resigned my position as the Director of Finance of the Obidient Movement about three days ago and sent a letter to the headquarters that I was no longer going to continue in that role as a person, based on all the points we’ve mentioned here.”

Additionally, he clarified that the venue for the press conference represented his personal commitment to the new initiative. He said, “This meeting is being held here today because it is my facility. It is the product of my hard-earned labour, and if I am championing a new move, it has to be in my house. After all, they say charity begins at home.”

Lack of Structure Cited

Agada pointed to systemic organisational failures as the primary motivation for his departure. He noted that the movement lacked the structural framework necessary for effective operation.

He stated, “I’m sorry to say that the lack of structure (in Obidient Movement) does not fit with my personality, the way I have grown as an architect of repute for the last 30 years. They have not been informing me of meetings and activities for a while now. You can imagine a director of finance in an organisation not knowing where or what is happening.”

Launch of The Movement Nigeria

Alongside his resignation, Agada introduced The Movement Nigeria as a new political platform. He emphasized that this new organisation would operate independently of any single political personality.

He declared, “In essence, we are not supporting one particular person. I said it in my speech earlier. The Movement Nigeria is not built on any personality. It is not for Asiwaju, Obi or Atiku.”

Regarding funding for the new platform, Agada dismissed allegations of external sponsorship. He explained, “Any movement that is being bankrolled by an individual can be completely shut down and destroyed by other individuals. This movement is currently being funded by some of us seated here today. The funding structure is a democratised one and not by any big man from somewhere.”
