Oluremi Tinubu Condemns Assault of Women and Girls During Alue-Do Festival in Ozoro

Senator Oluremi Tinubu condemned the assault of women and girls during the Alue-Do Festival in Ozoro. As reported by ALO360 the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria issued a personal statement on Sunday. Consequently she reacted to viral footage that showed young girls chased, stripped and molested in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.

First Lady Releases Strongly Worded Statement

Senator Oluremi Tinubu signed the statement herself. Moreover she described the scenes as horrific and barbaric.

“I watched the horrific viral footage emerging from Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, showing girls physically and sexually assaulted, subjected to degrading and barbaric treatment during what was supposed to be a community festival” she stated.

Culture Offers No Justification for Violence

In addition Senator Oluremi Tinubu affirmed respect for Nigerian traditions. Therefore she drew a clear line.

“Whilst I hold deep respect for the diverse rich cultures and traditions that make us who we are as a people, I believe that no such tradition or custom grants any man the right to violate the dignity or freedom of any woman or girl” the statement continued.

Police Receive Commendation for Arrests

Furthermore Senator Oluremi Tinubu praised the Nigeria Police Force. As a result she highlighted the swift action already taken.

“I commend the Nigeria Police Force for the arrests already made and urge all relevant authorities to ensure that all perpetrators face the full weight of the law” she added.

Victims Urged to Seek Immediate Help

The First Lady also spoke directly to those affected. Consequently she offered practical advice.

“To the victims of this unfortunate incident, I urge you to seek the relevant medical and psychological help. I pray for your healing, peace and strength at this difficult time” Senator Oluremi Tinubu declared.
